Intel Mimo Baby Onesie

Smart Baby Onesie

Intel has started off the year by showing off its tablets and smartphones and now, its hands only, on wearables. And this time it is not the fitness tracker but the internet-connected baby onesie. What is most astonishing about this development is that it is no longer at concept stage but a funalised product, ready for stores. This Mimo Baby was made by Rest Devices,  specifically created for parents to monitor aspects of their child’s health.

The baby onsie has two green stripes on its front which constitutes as respiratory sensors and it comes with a removable, turtle-shaped clip with sensors, allowing it to monitor the baby’s body position, activity level and skin temperature. The data can be viewed by parents on an iOS/Android app that shows the baby’s respiratory patterns.

Carson Darling, one of the founders of Rest Devices says, “You can look at your smartphone and know that everything is OK.”

One thing to be expected from an Intel product is their use of a chip which practically runs the show. And this suits for the Mimo Baby as well, as it has a dual-core Edison PC. Though baby onesie is available for shipment, it will not feature the Edison until Intel releases the Edison embedded version. It is planning to release it by the end of the summer. The non-Edison kit will function exactly as advertised and will be sold for £120 as a starter kit, with three onesies and a turtle clip-on. Thereafter, each onesie will be sold in £18 two-packs, with sizes ranging from zero to 12 months.

Epson New Moverio BT-200

The smaller and upgraded version of BT100, the Epson Moverio BT-200 headset has been released.

The Epson BT-200 headset offers a totally different experience. For users it will be a pair of smartglasses and not a screen, which projects outwards. The aesthetics of the Epson smartglasses is a far cry from Google Glass, which has a sleeker finish to its appearance. Epson emphasises on the smartglasses comfortability, suggesting the headset doesn’t feel like headwear and gives an immersive experience to its users. The BT-200 make will not function via Bluetooth as Epson has opted for a wired handheld to accompany the device. However, it offers more utility to the connected handheld. The handheld responds well and the duo feel very natural. The makers say, “Twice the display at half the price”. Yes, it is available for pre-order. But shipping starts in March with a price of £425.

Vizio new products at CES 2014

Vizio landed at the CES 2014 in Las Vegas with its largest and cheapest series of TVs.

Vizio’s huge 120” TV has succeeded in trumping Samsung’s 110” Ultra HD TV model. They’ve even gone further by making the low-cost 4K TVs that will be available later this year dubbed the P-Series.

The P-Series TV’s will come in various sizes at affordable prices. The smallest size is 50” prices at an amazing  £614 with the biggest size being 70”, priced at £1,599.   Although it’s one of the lowest priced TVs, it has an advanced picture quality, powerful performance and a beautifully simple Ultra HD experience. Vizio has also announced that Netflix’s 4K content would be available on its TVs.

VIZIO, INC. AUDIO LINE-UP

Vizio also unveiled what it calls the “Smart Audio” Bluetooth speakers. These speakers have an LCD touch screen display that’s runs on KitKat android 4.4. There are 2 models – a smaller version with 4.7” and a larger model with 7” display. Being smart audio speakers their function is beyond just audio streaming over Bluetooth, like their ability to pull audio from any music app in Google Play. Though there are many uses it certainly has not deviated from its main purpose. Vizio is hoping that users will discover the new creative ways to transfer music to their new speakers when they are launched.

Vizio New Laptop-PING

Along with its 4K TV and power-packed speakers, Vizio has also unpacked its new thin and light 15.6” laptop and a new 24” all-in-one pc. Though the design and their outer casing are similar to their previous releases, what makes the difference is what’s under the “hood”. The inclusion of Intel Core i7 Haswell processors, Intel’s Iris Pro graphics solution, Vizio’s 802.11ac wireless and 1080p touchscreens into its new machines has definitely made a difference. The touchscreen is the best of the lot; its responsiveness is so good that it clearly demonstrates how easy Windows 8.1 to use on multiple devices. But when it comes to words on the launch and the price, there is still no word from Vizio.

virgin-galactic-ss2-08-670x440-130429

Commenting on the 71,000 feet altitude reached by Virgin Galactic’s third supersonic flight, Richard Branson expressed his joy. ‘…I couldn’t be happier to start the New Year with all the pieces visibly in place for the start of full space flights.’ Speaking enthusiastically about the plans for the coming year, Mr Branson said ‘…2014 will be the year when we will finally put our beautiful spaceship in her natural environment of space.’

After dozens of successful subsonic test flights, Virgin Galactic tested the supersonic, rocket-powered flight. CEO for Virgin Galactic, George Whitesides said ‘…today’s flight was another resounding success.’ Mr Whitesides said ‘…we focused on gathering more transonic and supersonic data, and our chief pilot, Dave, handled the vehicle beautifully. With each flight test, we are progressively closer to our target of starting commercial service in 2014.’

With progress being made as I type, you could soon be booking your all inclusive packages to outer space! (If you have $250,000 that is.)
