Alright, we all know the Samsung Galaxy Alpha looks a lot like the iPhone 4, especially at the rims and edges. But this is also the first time that Samsung is incorporating metal into its manufacturing. But its tryst with metal ends at the borders; the back of the Galaxy Alpha reminds you that you’re operating a Samsung product. It’s a laudable first attempt, with the sleek, elegant body which is very comfortable to navigate and handle even in a single hand. At 6.7mm, it may not be the thinnest phone out there, but the very slim build and the 4.7” display are very impressive. The ergonomics are brilliant in this one, with the intelligent use of both metal and plastic that facilitate easier handling, and even the perk of the little-finger slot is pretty neat.

 

The display is a 4.7” screen which might look a bit low when compared to its peer, both within Samsung and outside of it. But it feels perfect, providing a very good experience with reading, games, pictures and videos without compromising on usability. But the touchy point here is the display of just 720p, which looks a little unfair for the high price tag. It might seem a bit drab in relation to other players, but, for this screen size, this display feels very satisfactory and gives us sharp, vivid images and texts.

In case you’re looking for a major software overhaul to match the ergonomic enhancement, you’re going to be let down big time. The Alpha still runs on TouchWiz UI with Android 4.4.4 KitKat. It’s adequate, but not excellent. But Samsung has upgraded its software layout, making this the most spontaneous UI yet.

The Galaxy Alpha also includes innovative and popular features such as Ultra-Power Saving Mode, S Health, Finger Print Scanner, Private Mode and connectivity with the latest Samsung Gear Fit, Gear Live and Gear 2 wearables.  It will be available in Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Sleek Silver, and Scuba Blue, with available colors to be determined by market.

The 1860mAh battery is pretty frail, especially in comparison to the other modern power-tanks out there. However, with careful usage and the Ultra power-saving mode, you’re sure to look at a nice level of charge in the box.The verdict: if you’re a moderate user with a craving for great ergonomics, go for it.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear is one of the first Android wear Smartwatches. Samsung is known for its various technological advances and outcomes and hence not surprisingly, this is its fourth attempt at a Smartwatch, only after Galaxy Gear, Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. It focuses on hardware while Google focuses on software. If you are looking for a sleek, decent Android wear, then this is definitely the way to go.

 

This model is inspired by the Samsung Gear 2. The smooth, black, plastic watch straps can be swapped and it is water and dust resistant (IP67 certified). There is a single home button on the right edge that is used to turn the device on or off. There is no camera or an infrared blaster. It weighs 59 grams and is 8.9mm thick. It is light and slimmer than LG’s Android Wear Smartwatch.

It is technologically as well as physically comfortable to wear this watch. The watch’s interior is curved slightly so that it sits intrinsically on the wrist. This is one of the best Android wear out there. The display is vibrant, bright and clear with majestic colours and sharpness. Whether it is tablets or Smart watch screens, Samsung deserves applause when it comes to display.

This device has an accelerometer, digital compass, gyroscope and a heart rate sensor incorporated in it. The green flash lighting of the sensor against your skin provides the reading of the heart rate. There are no apps to support videos in Android wear. As for images, the resolution is not completely optimised and there is a bit of a problem with sharpness and clarity. The main setbacks are its low battery life and its compatibility with only newer Android devices. It is also harder to read in sunlight.

Samsung Electronics has opened the Samsung Innovation Museum in Suwon, South Korea to celebrate its 45^th anniversary.  At the opening of the museum Samsung’s CEO Kwon Oh-Hyun said that “The Samsung Innovation Museum brings together some of the true historical masterpieces of electronics innovation,” and that “These inventions laid the technological foundation that allowed us to develop and refine products that enhance lives today. The museum gives visitors an opportunity to see where we’ve come from and also see where Samsung draws inspiration from to continue to create category defining products.”

Vizio new products at CES 2014

Vizio landed at the CES 2014 in Las Vegas with its largest and cheapest series of TVs.

Vizio’s huge 120” TV has succeeded in trumping Samsung’s 110” Ultra HD TV model. They’ve even gone further by making the low-cost 4K TVs that will be available later this year dubbed the P-Series.

The P-Series TV’s will come in various sizes at affordable prices. The smallest size is 50” prices at an amazing  £614 with the biggest size being 70”, priced at £1,599.   Although it’s one of the lowest priced TVs, it has an advanced picture quality, powerful performance and a beautifully simple Ultra HD experience. Vizio has also announced that Netflix’s 4K content would be available on its TVs.

Vizio also unveiled what it calls the “Smart Audio” Bluetooth speakers. These speakers have an LCD touch screen display that’s runs on KitKat android 4.4. There are 2 models – a smaller version with 4.7” and a larger model with 7” display. Being smart audio speakers their function is beyond just audio streaming over Bluetooth, like their ability to pull audio from any music app in Google Play. Though there are many uses it certainly has not deviated from its main purpose. Vizio is hoping that users will discover the new creative ways to transfer music to their new speakers when they are launched.

Along with its 4K TV and power-packed speakers, Vizio has also unpacked its new thin and light 15.6” laptop and a new 24” all-in-one pc. Though the design and their outer casing are similar to their previous releases, what makes the difference is what’s under the “hood”. The inclusion of Intel Core i7 Haswell processors, Intel’s Iris Pro graphics solution, Vizio’s 802.11ac wireless and 1080p touchscreens into its new machines has definitely made a difference. The touchscreen is the best of the lot; its responsiveness is so good that it clearly demonstrates how easy Windows 8.1 to use on multiple devices. But when it comes to words on the launch and the price, there is still no word from Vizio.

As anticipated CES 2014 was a display of jaw-dropping brilliance with the top electronics manufacturers racing to present their marvels. This year saw a clash between the two Korean giants: LG and Samsung.

It seemed as though Samsung weren’t satisfied at only realising their 105″ curved TV.  They also showed off a concept television that can bend via remote control. The 85″ UHD model can change from a flatscreen to a curved screen at the flick of a switch.  The South Korean company stated that the curved screen offered a wider field of view and panoramic effect; a similar effect to that used by IMAX.

Two motors on the side of the TV controlled by remote control determine the curvature, taking into account the number of people enjoying the TV.

No price has yet been announced. As a piece of technology it’s definitely interesting but it’s solving a problem that doesn’t really exist.

Their rival LG had already created a curved TV, but the angle was fixed. For them, it wasn’t just to build a 77″ 4K TV with a curved screen, but also to upgrade the display technology by adding a fourth sub-pixel to the display. While most TVs have three sub pixels (RGB), the new TV set adds a fourth white one (WRGB). It’s the first time that this new technology has been applied to a 4K set. The set also has LG’s Tru Ultra engine and is compatible with HDCP 2.2 as well as high-resolution videos in the H.265 format. Price-wise it will be ready and waiting for inclusion in your living room by this summer for a whopping £18,300.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has become a platform to showcase the best gadgets and the next generation technology that empower them.  All eyes are set on CES 2014 which is scheduled to be held from 7^th January until 10^th January 2014 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

At the CES 2013 Samsung stood out and are expected to do the same next year by introducing the Galaxy Round and Galaxy S5. With sales slowing on the Galaxy S4, Samsung is hopeful of the possible launch of the Galaxy 5 during CES 2014. With a new 16MP camera, potential 64-bit chip,  and all-metal body, consumers are certainly looking forward to this machine.

Microsoft is expected to throw light upon the adoption of Windows 8.1 and sales of Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2.  Kazuo Hirai, CEO of Sony, is believed to be delivering a keynote address which will constitute the Tech Titans keynote series.  Sony may launch a next-gen PS4 accessory at the event too.

Marissa Mayer, so far the only female speaker due to be present, will be part of the Tech Titan keynote address and will expand on Yahoo’s mobile user growth and general changes at Yahoo. In addition, Valve is set to launch the Steam Controller and Steam Machines at the CES whilst iBuyPower is also set to launch their own models.  As of that wasn’t enough, LG have announced its G Flex phone which is said to bend when pressure is applied without breaking.

So, guys brace yourselves because CES 2014 is definitely expected to be the hottest tech show on the planet.

Samsung Galaxy Round is the first ever curved smartphone. The phone’s screen is similar to that of the Samsung OLED TVs as it’s curved on the vertical axis.  The Samsung Galaxy Round has a 5.7-inch 1080p screen like the Galaxy Note 3. Samsung Galaxy Round will be launched on Thursday in SK Telecom in South Korea. It will be  in luxury brown with more colours coming soon.  The price has been set at 1.08 million about $1,00 or €740.

Samsung Galaxy Round will bring lot of new feature to Samsung’s smartphone. The new features are:

• Roll Effect that will enable users to check info easily when the home screen is off such as date, time, missed calls and battery.


• Gravity Effect – allows users to tilt the phone creating visual interaction.


• Bounce UX enables users to control their music. When the display is off and the music player is running users can short press to the left of the screen and play the pervious track and a press s to the right will play the next track.


• Side Mirror feature is for pictures and video and allow users to tilt to the right and left to access the album content list.

Samsung Galaxy Round big 5.7-inch screen provides extra benefits for users.  The phone allows multitasking capabilities like the Samsung Note. The screen will allows users to have more than one application on the screen at a time.  Also users can easily share content between the applications on the screen.
