Kano – The New DIY Computer

Kano – The New DIY Computer

If you’re not what could be termed as a ‘tech genius’ then this new Kickstarter project, Kano, is probably what you’re looking for.  You’re not alone if you have an interest in technology and computers, but aren’t particularly sure where to get started.   Kano is your very own ‘build it yourself’ computer that comes complete with a decently sized 8GB SD card, keyboard, speakers, HDMI, mini-USB cables, custom case and two instruction manuals to help get you started.

Now, before you get completely overwhelmed, think of it as building a house with a stack of cards.  Or, an entire (albeit misshaped) building with a Lego set.  Yes – it’s really that simple. Kano was named after a Japanese judo instructor, Kano Jigoro, and was inspired by a Lego and Manga book.  Powered by a Raspberry Pi, Kano is an easy-to-use, exciting and useful toolkit to occupy anybody’s time.

What better way to learn than by doing something enthralling? Kano started as a Kickstarter project and has collected more than $580,000 – far in excess of its original $100,000 goal.  The creators are young and lively who clearly know the relevance of technology at this point in time. With more time being spent on computers and laptops, who wouldn’t want to know how to make one? Kano will be shipped worldwide from July 2014 for $119.
