The Samsung Gear VR (Virtual Reality) is South Korean’s strive to bring virtual reality to the masses. This device looks sleeker than the Oculus Rift, and well, it’s more like a finished product.

Some users said it felt comfortable for about 10minutes but it was slightly heavy in the front, owing to the weight of the Note-4 that is fitted into it. The adjustable bands and thick padding at the back makes sure that it is competent for long term use.

The Note-4 is placed in front of the optical lenses that can be adjusted with a dial on the top panel. On the right hand side are the navigating menus, touchpad and back button. As for the speakers, you will want headphones or if you are going cable free, then you can use Bluetooth. Some users also said that they did not experience any motion sickness. They played a “Cyclops “style game in which they had to navigate a space ship by moving their head, aimed with their eyes and shooting was done by tapping the touchpad located in the side of the headset. The VR will be compatible with all Android Bluetooth controllers for more complex games. They tried various other demos and noted that the accelerometer did a pretty good job in following their head turns. Gamers might be disappointed to know that Samsung Gear VR does not have the 3D motion tracking of Oculus Rift. But users said they had a good experience with it, especially considering the fact that it is powered completely by a portable device.

Built with soft, flexible cushioning and lightweight materials, the Samsung Gear VR is comfortable to wear. It is completely wireless, so users can be fully engaged in virtual worlds without being tethered to a computer.The Samsung Gear VR will be available in Frost White through the Samsung online channel and selectively by carriers this year.
