Steve Jobs School opens in Netherlands

Steve Jobs School has official open it’s doors in  Netherlands

The first ever ‘Steve Jobs School’ was opened on Wednesday in Netherlands. ‘The Education for a New Era Foundation (O4NT)’ runs the school by putting technology at the heart of the classroom.

The class will not be using the strict schedules, structured course or textbook we are used to. Instead they we will be using Apple technology in the form of the iPad. This method of teaching was developed by O4NT to meet Dutch Ministry of Education 58 core objectives.

The iPad’s will become a virtual school that is loaded with apps that have been developed specifically for this method as it is the core system of the classes.

One of the main app is a virtual school yard that will allow the students to come to school everyday even when they are not in the physical build. Other apps allow parents and teachers to track a student progress on task, how long they spend on the task and what help they require.

The teachers are actual been called “Coaches” in these school by 04NT. The reasons being they will not be broadcasting the lesson material but offer support to children individual or on a group. The teachers (coaches) will be able to focus on the needs of individual students. Rather than lessons tailor for a collective group by using the  “one-on-one student-iPad ratio,”

Don’t worry though because the students wont spend the whole time glued to an iPad.  There will be subject room located the actual school. The students will either go to the language, maths, gym, and technology lab rooms. They will also have some lessons or activity on the iPad. Another advantage of these schools is that because the lessons are available at all time. The parents can schedule vacations and set school hours too how their child learns.

The current school that have adopted these methods are based in Sneek, Breda, Almere, Emmen, Heenvliet and Amsterdam. The iPad driven curriculum will be incorporated at all levels in the Sneek “Master Steve Jobs School” and Breda “Steve Jobs School”. However the other schools will be starting with the lower grades and then expands upwards.

O4NT have said that they will be at least 12 Steve Jobs School in Netherland by the end of this year.  While the other Dutch speaking children around the world will not have a chance to use his curriculum until O4NT International rolls out in early 2014.
