Tweets per minute record broken by Miley Cyrus

Tweets per minute record  broken by Miley

Tweets per minute record was broken by Mileys controversial VMA raunchy performance with 306,000 tweets per minute. Miley even tweeted ”Smilers! My VMA performance had 306,000 tweets per minute.” She posted  ”That’s more than the blackout or Superbowl! #fact.” Cyrus sent Twitter into a frenzy during her over-the-top performance that featured her twerking in underwear while using a foam finger as a sexual prop with Thicke, 36. Although Miley didn’t win any of MTV’s “Moon Man” awards, she holds the title of most tweeted-about VMA performance, receiving 4.5 million mentions in tweets sent out during the 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET airing.

An estimated 10.1 million people watched the annual program Sunday night, up 66 percent over last year for a show that is fueled by the buzz from talked-about moments, Miley Cyrus flashed her uvula, cavorted with teddy bears and twerked all over Robin Thick, making East Coast Twitter traffic for this year’s Video Music Awards peaked at Whopping 306,100 tweets per minute and beating Beyonce 231,000 tweets per minute at the last year super bowl February blackout.

“Twitter said” its so viral that we hit a one-second peak of 143,199 and for or those still in a daze over last night’s performance, that works out to around 8.5 million tweets per minute. Twitter averages more than 500 million tweets a day, or about 5,700 tweets a second, according to the site. Miley former Disney star sounded disappointed that she wasn’t picking up any awards. “Leaving the VMAs. No it’s not over,” she tweeted. “I’m no psychic but congrats @onedirection who took song of the summer award home.

Though her performance certainly got attention, those closest to Cyrus were more worried about the “ sexualized show”.

Miss Cyrus might have broken the record for most tweets per minute, she’s still got a long way to go to beat “Castle in the Sky” with an amazing 143,199 tweets per second.

It was a night filled with winners and losers Justin Timberlake, took home the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and delivered a career-spanning performance posted a 1,876 percent increase in sales on iTunes. Bruno Mars’ first-time-on-TV performance instantly launched the song onto the iTunes singles chart, putting it on top 10 on itune chart.
